The Fascinating Science of Metabolic Confusion for Weight Loss

The Science of Metabolic Confusion for Weight Loss

Not a lot of people know about metabolic confusion as it pertains to nutrition.  Recent research on circadian rhythms has shown that at midnight there’s a unique metabolic opportunity that I will call “metabolic confusion” because it’s easier to say.  It turns out that, at midnight, your body doesn’t know if it is today or yesterday, so whatever you eat at midnight doesn’t count for your calories.  Researchers have explained the metabolic confusion as your body saying, “did these calories happen yesterday or today… [error]… just leave them off the ledger.”

One of the ways people get this wrong is that they don’t realize that you only have a 59 second window to enjoy the metabolic confusion.  After that the calories count again.  So, you can maximize the opportunity by having all of your food ready to go for the stroke of midnight, and, you could even blend the food up beforehand so that it goes down faster. (For chicken wings, you want to remove the bones before the blender, unless you have a Vitamixer.)

Caveat: some people have more intelligent bodies than others, which means it is harder to confuse them.  If you try this nutrition hack and it seems like the calories are counting (as evidenced by the scale), then you may not be able to outsmart your body.  You might be too smart for this.  The good news is that you can blame your parents for this problem because physical and metabolic intelligence are purely inherited traits.
